BEWARE IF GOING TO CHATHAM OR FOLKESTONE!

Submitted by Nobby Hall via Carl Beeson 07 Oct 14.

Once again the Highway Agency only communicates with those on a computer who use social media!! I found out about this yesterday when discussing it with a mate and my proposed trip to Chatham in January thence March next
year.
Basically the present charge for a car is £2 paid at a toll booth as you pass through either at the end of Bridge South and before the tunnels North.

HMS Hermes

Submitted by Carl Beeson 06 Oct 14.

For those who served in HMS Hermes and to think that she is still afloat and performing her role, whilst we do not have enough ships to form a battle group never mind have the carrier to protect.

Help needed to track Navy League Sea Cadets

Submitted by Sam Macfarlane on 22 Jul 14

Dear Sir
We are trying to find out more information regarding the Navy League Sea Cadets, in particular the unit on Belle Isle, around 1943/4

My father in law was born in 1926 and he has a photograph taken at Belle Isle in Lake Windermere. He is in uniform with about 50 other very young men, 6 older officers, 1 vicar and a shaggy dog. Taken in front of the round house there is a shield on display with a ships bell and inscribed T.S. Bounty.

Charming 'Thank you'

Submitted by Geoff Dukes.
Thought long and hard before submitting this, is it my ego I don't think so. Think its is a nice dit, so here goes

Earlier on this year whilst on holiday with Nic in Latvia, was sat in a local hostelry enjoying a few scoops of a rather delicious beer and spinning a few sea stories.

Was approached by a little old man and his partner. The conversations went something like this

Op Gzira

2013 saw the ceremonial burial at sea of the old crossed julietts, having been replaced by a new design that resembles nothing to do with buntingry. So we mourned the passing with a ceremony to bury the badge at sea. Attached is the order of service and in the galleries there is now a folder for memories of the day.

Help needed to solve a mystery

From: martin sparkes

Dear Sir
Please find attached a photo found recently in a junk shop nestling in a piece of furniture, which I would like to know more about if possible.
Having looked on the internet I have researched the demise of HMS Ganges
As my father who has past away in 2008 longed to fight in the second world war in the navy but due to his apprenticeship skills as a silversmith was seconded to stay back on reserved occupation building Hamilcar glider planes. I would be interested to know the back ground of the photo

The Federation of Leander class frigate

Dear Communications colleague.
attached is a document that is the result of an inaugural meeting of the Leander class frigate Federation which was held at the Nautical Club Birmingham on Sunday the 7th of April this year.

“Vintage Ensign"

Can anyone please help me track down the origin of this particular White Ensign? I am doing research on it for someone at a local museum.

‘A member of the public has a vintage ensign with the three initials FVE (order uncertain) in the lower fly quarter.

The flag was found in a boat shed on the Thames in the early 1970s, near Marlow.’

Please contact me by email [email protected] or mobile no 07770 455 730

Thanks in anticipation

Morse key needed. Can you help?

"Following posted on the HMS Ganges Association Website:-
'Hello All, I've recently had a request from a member requesting any old morse key (that works) apparently he knows a elderly gent who is teaching some coastguard cadets to read flashing light. I would willingly pay postage if anyone can help me. Regards to all. Mike Sleight.'"
