Charming 'Thank you'

Submitted by Geoff Dukes.
Thought long and hard before submitting this, is it my ego I don't think so. Think its is a nice dit, so here goes

Earlier on this year whilst on holiday with Nic in Latvia, was sat in a local hostelry enjoying a few scoops of a rather delicious beer and spinning a few sea stories.

Was approached by a little old man and his partner. The conversations went something like this

(om) Sorry but couldn't help overhearing what you where saying about serving in UK navy.
(me) Please accept my apologies and I didn't mean to disturb you.
(om) You were not disturbing me, I have waited over 50 years to shake the hand of a man serving in the UK forces and thank them for liberating me. Will you please accept my handshake.
(me) Sir, personally I had nothing to do with your liberation, but will gladly shake your hand on behalf of all those did, but are now unable to do so.

I then rather humbly shook his hand, the coversation went on for a few more minutes, turned out he was Dutch and had lived in Arnhem and had been liberated twice once in "Market Garden" and once at the end of the war. they then returned to the party they were travelling with.

Respectfully submitted

Geoff
