A Ray of Sunshine

From Carl (the Sec)

Shipmates, I recently received a query from an elderly shipmate member of ours aged 96, asking if he had paid his subs and if not how to go about paying them.  After some thought I did two things;

One,  knowing that he was a WW2 veteran I contacted the RNA HQ and having passed on his details I requested that they contact the Branch nearest to him to arrange a visit Covid permitting or when the lockdown is lifted and ..

Two, to arrange for the RNA Certificate Of Appreciation to be issued.

By return they sent to me for onward “Transmission” a book about the end of the war celebrations and the Certificate of Life Membership and Appreciation for his war time service.

 On receipt of the said parcel, I contacted Sam and we decided that the least we could do would be to match the RNA’s Life Membership and waver his Association subs. A letter to this effect was sent to him. Today (19 Mar) I received a phone call from his wife to say thank you for the certificate, book and our membership waver, I spoke to him for a while, he was over the moon and send his thanks to the Assoc.  He also told me that he lost his brother on HMS Neptune when she hit a minefield off N. Africa, lost with all hands except one.

It’s nice to know that we have brought a ray of sunshine to one of our shipmates during this period of gloom.

Yours Aye

Carl
